In the Studio – Tom for Rose

There’s something special about the first time a story begins to find its voice. I’ve been in the studio, recording the demo for Tom for Rose — an all-sung short film set on the Kaipara in 1963.

Right now, I’m gathering the creative team, refining the music, and preparing for the next stage. It’s the beginning of a journey that will weave together music, film, and Aotearoa’s history into something raw, beautiful, and deeply human.

NZ Live Interview

No Man's Land Album Release

New Zealand Live with West Auckland band, Macombee & the Absolute Truth.

It's been a rocky road to get the cinematic debut album No Man's Land by this family band finished, as Simon Mercep discovers.

Press Reviews

To cut to the chase, when I played the opening track ‘The Absolute Truth’ I was gobsmacked. I was blown away with its intricacies and extremely well placed arrangement. The track instantly reminded me of a David Lynch film and would be well suited to act as a theme song to any HBO TV show. This track had sparked my attention and I was all ears. The tracks from this point had a slight trip hop feel, less Bristol and more musical stage show.” - Joel C Blood

MUSIC NET NZ 2015

Stories are hugely important to Sarah Macombee. The writing and performing of them is transformative, as we are soon to discover with the release of No Man’s Land. What’s important is that now these exquisite songs will be available for all to hear and enjoy.” - The Website Ninja

MUSICNATION 2014

Sarah composed the music and plays the quite hilarious supporting role as well as providing the live music. The two really do work well together like well-oiled pedals on a bike. Their timing and delivery of lines is second to none” - Jarred Tito

NZ ENTERTAINMENT PODCAST-Lisa Brickell's 'Mockingbird' 2016

Macombee’s presence is well integrated into the structure, and her inappropriately upbeat songs capture the blackly comic potential of the show. Her music is a careful balancing between funny and depressing that turns the everyday horrors into comically over the top” - Nathan Joe
